| Description | The Village Voice is a weekly, free large-print periodical in New York City. Though the Voice's focus is on arts & culture, it also features local investigative reports and current events analysis. The Voice's music web site has a comprehensive list of New York shows. There is an associated blog updated weekly.
Since it was founded in the mid-50s, Village Voice's content model has become the standard for hundreds of arts publications. The paper was founded by psychologist Ed Fancher, influential reporter Norman Mailer and Dan Wolf, who went on to become one of New York Mayor Ed Koch's senior advisers in October 1955. In 2005, the Village Voice merged with alternative weekly conglomerate New Times Media. Though New Times media actually took a majority share, it adopted the Village Voice name. The merger was highly controversial, prompting the resignation of several high-ranking editors, including Don Forst and Sydney Schanberg, long-time Music Critic Robert Christgau and Publisher Judy Miszner. The Village Voice has won numerous awards for its reporting, including three Pulitzers. The Voice's Web site has twice won the National Press Foundation's Online Journalism Award. Music Awards |
