The Music Snob is an ever-growing body of knowledge relating to the music industry, developed by and for musicians. The site provides an organized way for contributing descriptive, factual and subjective information on all facets of the industry and music making.
The Music Snob's mission is to help musicians with their music careers by making all industry information and resources accessible in an organized way.
The site's name is a tongue-in-cheek reflection of its mission. The Music Snob itself does not have any opinions, and is therefore the opposite of a snob. But the site is based on the idea that each practicing musician has valuable and unique information on some aspect of the industry or art, whether it be how to get a gig at the local bar or tips for promoting your latest recordings.
We hope the site will eventually reflect the composite knowledge of thousands of musicians, making it in a way the biggest snob of all.
Started in summer 2007, the site sprang out of one NYC-based musician's frustrations with promoting his own music. While there are more resources than ever dedicated to helping independent musicians, this has made it more difficult to figure out what works and what doesn't.
