A press kit, is package of information sent to media outlets to inform them about your band. The staples of a press kit include, but are not limited to, a band bio, an 8 X 10 photo or 'glossy' of the band, and a copy of either the album or sampler which is currently being promoted by the band.
While many new and developing artists often opt to have their friends write the band bio, and take their publicity picture, sometimes it is necessary to look to third parties for these services.
A large number of music journalists are often on the look out for the type of freelance project that putitng together a press kit would be. Seeking out somebody with professional journalism experience help to ensure that not only will you be working with an excellent writer, but somebody who also has industry experience.
There are many places to either place adds or comb profiles for the right person to work on your press kit.
Craig's List and Media Bistro are two excellent places to begin your search. These sites not only allow potentinal employers to post want ads, they also allow freelancers to post profiles outlining their experience and areas of expertise.
It may be necessary to hire two separate freelancers, one to write the band biography and one to take the press picture, as most freelancers only stick to one area of expertise.
